Music is said to be the greatest creative outlet for a person, one can achieve a great level of relaxation through the help of music, and perhaps this is the reason why so many individual are striving for musical empowerment in our current generation. Since our inception, we at Munin Baruah Memorial Music College (MBMMC) have been working hard to be the vehicle that a person looks towards when he/she is looking for that empowerment. Our mission is to equip each individual with all the necessary music knowledge and expertise that one require and to help the individual to properly hone his/her musical passion into a successful career.
Munin Baruah Memorial Music College was established in 14th November, 2007 by the renowned artist of Jorhat Mrs. Sibani Baruah Phukan. The institute was founded in the memory of her late father Mr. Munin Baruah. Her father was also a very renowned personality in the music sphere of Jorhat and has been a great source of inspiration for her to follow a career of music. As a music personality she wants to bestow on the young generation to help their endeavor into a successful musical career.
MBMMC is registered under the government of Assam in the Year 2010 the registration number being JOR/238/D/35 and it is affiliated under the Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyapith (BSV), Lucknow.
Since our inception in 2007, we have been organizing Summer workshops every year with the prime objective of preaching traditional Assamese Folk Music. In this era where electronic music dominates mainstream music, we believe that it is our responsibility as people of Assam to preserve and cultivate our traditional music culture. With this thought in mind we invite music delegates from all over India to teach the students various forms of traditional/folk music which they would not have the opportunity to learn otherwise.
We have been facilitating this movement by introducing folk songs “Luko Xongeet” from various parts Assam.
We have three major programs some of which are held monthly and some are annually. Our students and teachers take the lead in organizing the 3 day annual program festival in the end of a year. We organize summer workshops every year with the prime objective of preaching traditional Assamese Folk Music. Monthly Jalsa named ‘Anubhav’ is also organized by us in the end of every month. All three events offer our students an adaptive platform to perform and excellent opportunities to learn cooperation, teamwork and leadership skills while making memories that will last a lifetime.
We also invite renowned musical personalities of Jorhat to perform in our events so that the students might get a better exposure.

I am honored and feel very happy to say that I have been the Principal of MBMMC, Jorhat for 12 years. I am always excited and look forward to working with our students, staff and parents to make MBMMC, the best music institute it can be.
Every child is unique. Since birth, every child has the potential to achieve many great things in life. It is the responsibility of parents to awake this potential in the child. Researchers have found that music is one of the best methods to bring out the best in human potential.
Music has a positive impact on human development process and learning process. Music improves a child’s self-discipline, self-esteem, thinking skills etc. Here at MBMMC, Jorhat, We provide the perfect blend of traditional and modern contemporary music to adhere to all kinds of music lovers. We provide plenty of opportunities in many of our events throughout the year to showcase their talents and their learning. The uniqueness of MBMMC is that we give equal emphasis on both practical and theoretical knowledge so that it can build a good foundation for future learning in music.
Understanding of good posture and techniques of playing a musical instrument is also very important from an early age. Parents must make sure their children learn to play the instrument (e.g. violin, piano) and not just learn to play the tune.
Also, our MBMMC programs will prepare the students for the BSV and ABRSM graded system, which are worldwide recognized boards for music examinations.
